Welcome to the Liverpool Roleplay Society website! I hope this website gives you an insight into what roleplaying and what the society does!

What do we do? The Liverpool Roleplay Society is a facility for our members to partake in tabletop Roleplay, LARP, card and board games.

What is Roleplaying? There is no easy answer to this, especially for those who have never tried roleplaying before, however; In roleplaying, participants adopt and act out the role of characters, or parts. In some ways roleplaying is like collectively writing a book or script in which the participants play the characters in real time. Most roleplay games have a rule set and are pulled together by a Game master or GM who acts as the narrator. Roleplay games have limitless possibilities; You create your own world and characters, deciding how they feel and interact with the world. However roleplay isn’t just about stories and dice, it’s about meeting people and having a laugh, and we always go to the pub after games! It’s a great way to distress and forget uni for a few hours.

What is a LARP? LARP, or LRP stand for Live (Action) Roleplay. LARP is all about taking the ideas of roleplay games to the next step into an active form. Players don costumes and the persona of their characters. One main difference between roleplaying and LARP is that any combat is done in real time with mock weapons; such LARP can be described like a mixture of Battle enactment and theatre. LARP tends to be more creative and very social, not to mention lots and lots of fun! It requires more improvisation and roleplaying than “tabletop” or “static” roleplay game. It’s definitely something worth trying
